Avoid slipping on pesky, icy steps
Remember when you got a cold and cough and mom saved the day by applying Vicks VapoRub to your chest. Wow, it was a jolt that seemed to work! But, did you know that Vicks can help minimize other health issues?
January SKI Tips
Do not remove ice from plants. Ice covered branches on trees and shrubs are brittle and can break easily and damage plants.
Start planning for your garden by sending for seed and plant catalogs. Order plants early for best selections.
Make sure your car tires are properly inflated according to the owner’s manual. Under inflated and overinflated tires won’t grip the road as well as they should. If tire tread is worn or thin, they may hydroplane on wet winter roads.
When you brush your teeth you use approximately 2 gallons of water. Turn off faucet between brushings to save on the water bill.
Fill a string mesh bag with suet and scraps of leftover food and hang from a tree limb for wintering birds.
Increase humidity around houseplants by grouping them together, placing them on pebble-water trays or running a humidifier.
Could be true: Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what was important to the people. Since there were no telephones, TV’s, radios or computers, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns. They were told to “go sip some ale” and listen to people’s conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times—“you go sip here” and “you go sip there”. The two words “go sip” were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and thus, we have the term “gossip”.
